The magic of Christmas was visible in downtown Coos Bay on Friday, Nov. 28, as the Coos Bay Downtown Association and the Egyptian Theatre joined forces to bring Santa Claus to town and to the Egyptian, where Santa was greeted by hundreds of children.
After visiting with St. Nick, the kids and their parents — more than 600 of them — enjoyed a movie presentation, “Elf,” and during the movie’s snowball fight, the audience members got to participate and had great fun throwing rolled-up socks at each other. After the movie, the 925 pairs of stockings were gathered up and donated to area organizations.
We were delighted to be able to give back to the community in this way. We all had such a good time that we’re planning on doing it again next year — when we will be showing “Elf” and throwing socks twice!
